Wheel Size and Overall Width Problem

Hi;

We have just ordered a MonsterBorg kit and will be entering it into the PiWars contest here:

https://piwars.org/

However I have just identified that the MonsterBorg is about 13mm too wide. My initial reaction would be to change the wheels?

I have found that the hubs that are fitted to the MonsterBorg are these 6mm ones:

https://www.piborg.org/motors-mounts-and-wheels-1140/hub-6mm/

That take 12mm Hex Wheels and that most 1/10 scale RC wheels are 12mm hex. and also works well with PiBorg YetiBorg Wheels.

What I cannot find out is how wide are the MonsterBorg Wheels so that I can buy a pair that would be a combined 13mm less. And I also need to calculate or minimise the ground clearance loss if fitting narrower wheels?

Any help with this conundrum would be greatly appreciated :-)

The MonsterBorg wheels are 50 mm wide, however the hubs fit fairly deep inside the wheels themselves. There is approximately 190 mm from the outer edge of the left hubs to the outer edge of the right hubs.

You would need to find some wheels which have the hub mounting fairly deep hub mounting. It may also be possible to save ~2 mm by fitting the hubs slightly closer to the motors than we would normally recommend.

One thing that might work is our YetiBorg narrow wheels. These will fit on the MonsterBorg and they will just touch the maximum robot size limit of 225 mm. The only catch is that they are much smaller for ground clearance so it would either need to run upside-down or use a smaller battery pack (such as a slim LiPo).

Here are some of the other dimensions for the MonsterBorg:

Sorry didn’t see your reply, I must have forgotten to tick the notify box. Anyway the MonsterBorg arrived yesterday so many thanks, what a Monster it is too!!!

I may try the YetiBorg wheels and reposition the batteries on top. I also have a spare LiPo.
