Encoders

I got an encoder that has 4 pins, and the picoborg reverse schematic has only 3 pins (2 pin power, 1 for encoding).

I am not sure which one to put on, I'm not if there is a standard on that as I could't find documentaion on the envoder. The cables are coloured yellow, red,white, black.

I think it is a quadrature encoder, is the picoborg "taco" are for a different purpose?

A standard quadrature encoder has four signals, V+, GND, I, Q.
V+ is the positive power, GND is the negative power.
I and Q are the two signal lines, in a full encoder setup both of these are used to give a more precise feedback.

PicoBorg Reverse uses only one of the signal lines, either I or Q, it does not matter which one.
Normal practice is to use Red for V+ and Black for GND, therefore we would expect the wiring to be as follows:

Encoder wire Function PicoBorg Reverse connection
Red V+ 3v3 (pin 2 on 5-pin header)
Black GND Ground (pin 3 on 5-pin header)
Yellow I Taco M1 or M2 (pin 4 or 5 on 5-pin header)
White Q Leave disconnected

Without the encoder data sheet we cannot be certain though, so no promises :)
